A Blend of Nature’s Bounty

  • Avocado Oil: Rich in vitamins A, C, and E, avocado oil deeply nourishes and replenishes your skin, promoting a healthy, youthful glow. Its fatty acids lock in moisture, leaving your face feeling soft and supple.
  • Shea Butter: This natural emollient melts into your skin, providing intense hydration and protection. Shea butter also soothes irritation and inflammation, making it ideal for sensitive skin.
  • Aloe Vera: Renowned for its calming and healing properties, aloe vera soothes sunburns, reduces redness, and promotes skin regeneration. Its cooling effect leaves your face feeling refreshed and invigorated.

More Than Just Clean

This soap goes beyond basic cleansing. It pampers your skin with a gentle lather that washes away impurities without stripping away essential moisture. The natural ingredients work together to:

  • Fight free radicals: The antioxidant-rich formula protects your skin from environmental damage and premature aging.
  • Promote skin health: Essential fatty acids and vitamins nourish and revitalize skin cells, leaving your face looking healthy and radiant.
  • Soothe and calm: Aloe vera’s calming properties reduce irritation and inflammation, making this soap ideal for sensitive skin.

SCENT: LIME AND BASIL

Face bars should be cleansing without drying out your skin or being too harsh. A good face bar rids your skin of bacteria while providing nourishment to your skin. This face bar contains aloe, which calms the skin, as well as shea butter and avocado, which provide vitamins, antioxidants, and great moisturizing ability. Basil and lime have traditionally been used to treat acne and kill bacteria. They have a very energizing yet calming scent.

SAFETY FIRST! Remember to wear your safety equipment and mix the lye water outside. Tell everyone you live with that where you’re working is off limits. Give yourself enough time to complete the recipe.

EQUIPMENT

  • Kitchen Scale
  • Glass Bowls
  • Measuring spoons
  • Blender or food processor
  • Large spoon
  • Large stainless steel pot
  • Small zip-topplastic bag
  • Mold
  • Thermometer
  • Parchment Paper
  • Stick Blender (or hand mixer)
  • whisk
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Blanket

INGREDIENTS

  • 210gr (7 ounces) Olive Oil
  • 105gr (3.5 ounces) Aloe Liquid
  • 240gr (8 ounces) Tallow
  • 150gr (5 ounces) Shea Butter
  • 240gr (8 ounces) Coconut Oil
  • 120gr (4 ounces) Avocado Oil
  • 60gr (2 ounces) Avocado, puréed
  • 126gr (4.2 ounces) Lye
  • 270gr (9 ounces) Water
  • 15gr (0.5 ounce) Lime Essential Oil
  • 15gr (0.5 ounce) Basil Essential Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Spirulina Powder ( optional)

PREP AHEAD:

Combine the water and aloe liquid in a large glass, plastic, or stainless steel container. Place the container in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours.

1. HEAT THE FATS/OILS:

In a large pot, combine the olive oil, tallow, coconut oil, shea butter and avocado oil. Heat over medium-low heat until they are melted and incorporated. Remove from the heat and allow to cool to 100°F(38C°) to 110°F(45C°).

2. MIX THE LYE WATER:

Put on safety gear, including protective eyewear, a mask, gloves, and long sleeves. Outside, carefully add the lye crystals to the water and stir until dissolved. Allow to cool to 100°F(38C°) to 110°F(45C°). If the oils and lye water cool at different rates, you can use a cold- or hot-water bath in the sink.

3. PREPARE THE MOLD:

While the oils and lye water cool, line the mold with parchment paper.

4. COMBINE AND BRING TO TRACE:

When both the oils and lye water are 100°F(38C°) to 110°F(45C°), carefully pour the lye water into the pot of oils. Use a stick blender (or hand mixer) to mix for 1 to 2 minutes and then let the mixture rest for 4 to 5 minutes. Repeat mixing and resting until light trace.

5. MIX IN NATURAL ADDITIVES:

When the soap reaches light trace, add the avocado purée and lime and basil essential oil and blend for 30 seconds.

6. ADD THE COLORANTS

If you choose to add the spirulina, transfer 1 cup of the soap to a separate bowl. Add the spirulina and whisk until there are no lumps. Return the colored soap to the full batch and blend

7. MOLD THE SOAP:

Pour the soap mixture into the mold, cover with a lid or parchment paper and insulate with a blanket for 24 hours.

8. CUT AND CURE:

Remove the soap from the mold. If it seems too soft to remove, wait another 12 to 24 hours before removing. Cut the soap into 12  bars. Allow the bars to cure in a well-ventilated location for 4 to 6 weeks.

TIP: You are adding fresh avocado, essential oils, and spirulina all at trace. You don’t want your soap to thicken too quickly while you’re working, so watch it very carefully and stop to add those ingredients as soon as it just starts to thicken at light trace.
